Separation Lake Birding March 24, 2020

Separation Lake remains completely frozen now but there was a side pond only viewed from the top of the hill that had a small area of water.  While I watched, two Tundra Swans landed there to join the usual cast of ducks.  While leaving, I noticed a male Harrier sitting on a post so I stepped out of the car to take a quick photo.  After shooting some images I noticed a small group of sparrow sized birds flying in the distance so I took a couple of shots for ID.  After a quick check on the camera I saw that they were Lapland Longspurs!  This is a new region bird for me here and my first since living in China and seeing them on my patch there.  Separation Lake delivers yet again.
