Recent Encounters Early December 2021

I’ve been busy with other things for the most part but do get out here and there in small chunks of time. Here are some recent photos from early December.

Black-billed Magpies are common birds here but I was working on getting flight shots in my backyard a week ago.
Coyotes become more visible once there is snow on the ground. A friend and I watched this one successfully pounce through the snow on a vole yesterday right after it crossed this lake.

An Oregon Junco with some abnormal white feathers on its throat in my backyard. Almost looks like a chickadee.
A Northern Pygmy Owl in a typical perch in typical dusk light at typical distance typically looking the other way..
Sharp-tailed Grouse exist in this area in small numbers. They are high on the list for birders from other parts of BC when visiting this region as they are not reliably found in any other part of the province.
Winter arrived a couple of weeks ago.

  2. We talked about you this morning because we saw a huge bird sitting on a pole right next to the highway and we knew that you would know what kind it was. đŸ™‚ Some type of falcon I think.
