Borneo Wildlife & Nature Adventure

March 13–25, 2027 • 12 Days • $6,699 per person, double occupancy

Borneo, Malaysia — an island overflowing with life!

Join us for an incredible 12-day adventure through some of the most spectacular natural areas of Borneo. This is a trip for anyone who loves wildlife, tropical forests, beautiful scenery, great food, and adventure. While I am a diehard birder, this is not primarily a birding trip. Birds and other wildlife will be pointed out throughout the journey, but there will also be plenty of opportunities to simply relax, explore, and enjoy this amazing part of the world.

We’ll experience a wonderful variety of Borneo, from relaxing beach resorts and snorkeling in the South China Sea to wildlife boat safaris deep into pristine jungle.

Wildlife & Adventure

Some of the highlights include:

  • Wild Orangutans in their natural rainforest habitat
  • Asian Pygmy Elephants
  • Several species of monkeys, including the endemic Proboscis Monkey
  • The incredibly small Western Tarsier
  • Saltwater Crocodiles
  • Colorful kingfishers
  • Numerous hornbill species, including the spectacular Rhinoceros Hornbill
  • Herons and many other tropical birds
  • Night walks searching for the fascinating creatures that become active after dark
  • A visit to a botanical garden in the tropical rainforest, including fascinating carnivorous pitcher plants
  • A scenic drive toward Mount Kinabalu, rising to nearly 4,100 meters (13,400 feet)
  • Snorkeling and relaxing along the coast
  • Excellent Malaysian food and plenty of opportunities to experience the local culture

With birds everywhere, we’ll easily encounter 100+ bird species without making birding the primary focus of the trip. For those who want to look more closely, there will be plenty to discover—including colorful kingfishers, hornbills, herons, and many other tropical species.

The Borneo Big Five

Borneo has its own incredible “Big Five,” and we’ll have opportunities to see all five:

Saltwater Crocodile • Asian Pygmy Elephant • Orangutan • Rhinoceros Hornbill • Proboscis Monkey

One of the most memorable parts of the trip will be our three-day, two-night wildlife river safari. We’ll travel by boat through some of Borneo’s spectacular jungle waterways in search of wildlife. These areas are also a wonderful example of how responsible ecotourism can help protect habitat. When local communities can earn more from keeping the forest intact and sharing its wildlife with visitors than from logging valuable hardwoods, tourism becomes a powerful conservation tool.

Conservation Matters

We’ll stay at accommodations and visit places that take nature conservation seriously. Supporting responsible tourism is an important part of this trip. Our goal is not simply to see wildlife, but to experience Borneo in a way that helps demonstrate the value of protecting its forests and the incredible creatures that depend on them.
